Gifts and smiles

I think it interesting that when we brought Luke home from the hospital Zane handed Luke a little toy basketball. When we brought Cade home, Luke gave him two toy puppies. Somehow both Zane and Luke had the desire to give their new brother a gift. They did this on their own. It wasn't an idea that someone else gave them. They both seemed to just want to express their love to the newest member of our family. My boys must each have a sweet, giving nature.Y

I think Cade smiled at me several times yesterday. They are little smiles, but I'm pretty sure they are smiles. He would have been 5 weeks and 1 day old.

What boys like

I want to be able to remember what little boys like at different stages of their development. My older boys (ages 1 and 3 1/2) love: flashlights, tape measures, backpacks, balls, hats & gloves, helmets & bikes. My thought is that if I write these things down now, when I get older and my kids are grown I will still know what to get little guys for their birthdays, Christmas, etc.

Luke's words

I published a post earlier that told a story about Zane saying he would "freak out." Since that time Luke has started "freaking out" too. It is cute because he can't quite say it; it sounds more like "feak ou." He says a lot of two or three word sentences now; however, sometimes his words still run together. His newest sentence is "What did you say?", but when Luke says it it sounds more like one word. He is really fun to listen to. For awhile now he has said "Sorry" followed by "again." He shakes his head when he says "again." Translation: He is sorry and he will not do it again. He seems to be sorry a lot and so we have heard this many, many times. I think I must smile every time because he seems so sincere and it's adorable.

A story that needs to be told...thumb sucking

I think it was May when I took Zane and Luke to the doctor for their last well-checks. The doctor said that she could tell Zane sucked his thumb because of his teeth. A while later I talked to Zane about what the Doctor said and asked him what we should do. I suggested buying something to put on his thumbs to make them taste bad. He said, "No, I'll just stop." The amazing thing is that he did! I can't get over how he just understood there was a problem, determined to stop and then did...no more problem. He is amazing! How many three year olds do you think have that kind of will power??

Funny things said...

Yesterday when Zane told us he needed to use the facilities, Cory told him to hold it. He said he couldn't because he doesn't have a hand on his bottom.

Today Zane was looking at a book that my Uncle Lenard wrote in when he was a little boy. After asking me about why Lenard did that Zane said, "When I write in books it makes me 'freak out'."

Yesterday I asked Luke what he wanted to do. He responded, "Frisbee. Daddy." I asked what else he wanted to do and he said, "Bike." Later I was trying to get him to repeat he list to Cory and he added, "Candy." So his wish list for the day...play Frisbee with Daddy, go for a bike ride and eat candy. Pretty cute that at one (almost two) he can develop a to-do list.

Point of Interest: Yesterday was Cade's first day at the beach.
